The verdict
Lower resolution than the Aura Carver at 1280 x 800, and the better buy for a recipient whose broadband is unreliable, because it does not depend on a continuous connection to keep displaying photographs. The matte board around the screen also helps it read as a picture frame rather than a tablet. Skylight Plus at around $39 a year unlocks HD video and scheduling.

What it is like to live with
Every digital frame promises the same thing: relatives push photographs to it and the recipient does nothing. Where they differ is what happens when the connection drops, and this is where Skylight beats the sharper Aura for a lot of the people we write for.
The practical advice applies to any frame in this category. Configure it on your own wifi, load fifty photographs, add the whole family as senders, and dismiss the subscription prompt before you wrap it. A frame that arrives working is a gift; one that arrives in a box is a task.
