Anker Soundcore earbuds review

Anker

Good earbuds for the money, and the wrong shape of gift for anyone over about sixty.

The verdict

Anker built its reputation on delivering most of the flagship experience at a third of the price, and Soundcore does that here. They sound good, the case is pocketable, and the battery is honest. We keep earbuds off our older lists for one specific reason: touch controls misfire against glasses, hats and hearing aids, and a lost single bud costs more than half the price of the pair.

What we liked

  • Most of the flagship experience at a fraction of the price
  • Case small enough for a coat pocket
  • Reliable pairing and reconnection
  • Multiple ear-tip sizes included

What we did not

  • Touch controls trigger by accident — a real problem with hearing aids
  • Easy to lose and expensive to replace singly
  • Fiddly for anyone with reduced dexterity
  • Shorter battery per charge than any over-ear pair

What it is like to live with

For the audience this site is mostly written for, over-ear headphones with physical buttons are the right answer and earbuds are not. That is not a comment on sound quality; it is about interfaces that respond to a hairbrush.

For a younger recipient none of that registers, and at this price they are among the easiest recommendations in the archive. Just do not buy them for a grandparent because they are cheaper than the Bose.
