The verdict
The best-known smart feeder and the more polished experience — the app is the one people prefer. The catch is pricing: a Pro subscription at roughly $4.99 to $9.99 a month reaches several hundred over five years on top of the feeder. Buy the PRO Solar model, which includes AI identification without a subscription, and the objection largely disappears.

What it is like to live with
The gift here is the notifications rather than the feeder. Something lands, the camera fires, and a photograph arrives with the species named — several times a day, for someone whose day is quiet. It also flows outward: those photographs get forwarded, which gives a housebound person something to offer a conversation.
On price, compare carefully. Netvue Birdfy sells a lifetime identification tier at roughly $49 to $69, which settles the running cost permanently. Bird Buddy answers that with the PRO Solar model. Buying the base model plus a monthly plan is the expensive route through this category.
