The verdict
It works — herbs grow through winter, the self-watering is reliable and the light runs on a timer. Two things to know before buying. The pod subscription runs around $7.95 a month, which reaches roughly $475 across five years on top of the hardware. And it is the safer buy than AeroGarden in 2026, because a pod-dependent appliance is only as good as its pod supply.
What we liked
- Genuinely produces usable herbs through winter
- Quieter and better designed than the cheaper rival
- Self-watering reservoir lasts weeks between fills
- Pod supply is continuing, which is not true across this category
What we did not
- Around $7.95 a month in pods — roughly $475 over five years
- Roughly double AeroGarden’s hardware price for nine pods
- Slower growth and a narrower range than the cheaper rival
- Over a year the herbs cost more than buying them
What it is like to live with
Judged as a machine it does what it claims. Judged as economics it does not — the pods cost more over a year than the herbs would at a shop, and that is worth being honest about before someone spends $199 expecting savings.
Buy it for the pleasure of something green in January, which is a real pleasure in a northern winter. And consider buying a year of pods alongside it, so the recipient is not quietly handed a subscription they did not choose.
